If you have read my earlier post you would know what the "Black Storm Comin'" is about. If you're lazy like me then I will recap it for you, it is about a boy named Colton Wescott. Who has to join the pony express to pay the doctor for taking care of his mom and so he can send a freedom letter(document) to his aunt all the way in California.
So, this story has racism in it. Today racism still occurs in the U.S. In the book Colton's father was white and his mom is black, because of this Colton's family is treated poorly and unwanted. For example on their way to California they traveled in a wagon train. The white folks didn't want them to come with them but they allowed it and because Colton's family knew this they stayed in the very back.
Colton looked a lot like his father. So he could pass for being white. Colton knew this, so he set out to be a Pony Rider, which was something only white people could do. It was like this because this story takes place in the 1860's which is when slavery was a big thing in the South. He was very brave in doing this because if someone were to find out that he was actually mixed (white and black) he could have been shot or hanged.
